The movie was directed by M. Night Shymalan and tells of a troubled boy`s story. The boy is able to see and talk to the dead people and a troubled psychologist tries to assist him. Dr. Malcolm Crow is a child psychologist and returns home one night with his wife Anna Crow from a ceremony he was honored for his excellent work, to find an intruder who appears aiming a gun and accuses the psychologist of failing to assist him. The ex-patient (Vincent) was treated by Dr. Crow for hallucinations as a child. The young man shoots Crow in the lower abdomen and seconds later directs the gun to himself. Dr. Crow is visited by a young boy Cole Sear, with a condition similar to Vincent`s. He is very dedicated to the boy though he is always haunted by doubts over his failure to assist Vincent, he is worried of the deteriorating relationship between him and his wife, who complains that everything else including herself come second after his job.
