INSTRUCTIONS:
I have already started this 6 page paper. I have currently done two pages, but if it needs revision, please let me know. Below are the specifications. Objective: The purpose of this assignment is to: provide the opportunity to learn more about a specifying topic in infant development; become acquainted with the most current research literature on your topic; In addition to the written research paper submission, each student will also prepare later an abstract to share online with some of the class members. Written paper consists of: I. Title page – title of paper, course, your name, instructor, date Note: Give your paper a title that is an accurate description of the information in the paper. For example, rather than the title of Poverty, a more descriptive title is, The Effects of Poverty on Infant Cognitive Development. II. Introduction – a 1 page statement describing the topic (including controversial issues related to this topic). The introduction section serves as an overview of your topic. III. Main body – (4-5 pages) a description of scholarly sources; empirical research identifying (1) the hypothesis or purpose of each study (2) methodology used (3) a summary of the major findings as they relate to the topic (4) unanswered questions such as: · Limitations of studies and findings, · Are the results generalizable to the people who differ (culture, age, gender) from the participants/subjects in the study? · What else would you like to know about the topic? IV. References - a separate page titled References – using APA style for citing your sources in the text of your paper. You should use the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition A minimum of 6 scholarly sources (research based journal articles or chapters). Sources should be within the last 10 years. On occasion, if making comparisons, it may be necessary to use an older source. Additional guidelines for this assignment: Total length of paper must be 5-6 pages (excluding title and reference page) 12 point font (New Times Roman); 1” margins Double Spaced Here is my paper so far... Infant development is the development from birth to 12 months. There are three main stages of infant development, biosocial development, cognitive development, and psychosocial development. These stages describe different areas of development in which every baby goes through during their development throughout infancy. The different parts that make up biosocial development include: body changes, brain development, the five senses, and motor skills. The different parts of cognitive development are sensorimotor skills, information processing, and language development. Emotion and social development are the parts of psychosocial development. Babies, however do not develop at the same rate. There is a wide range of what is considered the "normal" development period for milestones during infancy. When planning for a baby, many people plan for one, but when twins are added into the mix, it changes everything. There is suddenly twice the work of everything that comes into play with a baby. There are twice the costs of having one baby, including diapers, formula, food, wipes, clothes, medical expenses, furniture, toys, childcare, and more. There is suddenly twice the time and effort of raising two children of the same age. If the mother or father decides to stay home with the children, it can be a bit overwhelming having two babies to care for simultaneously than it would be having one child. At the same time, when twins are added into infant development, it changes the route of normal infant development. No matter how much effort someone puts into infant development, each child still develops at his or her own pace. There are controversial issues about twins and infant development where some people say that with twins, sometimes the babies will lack the attention that a singleton baby would get. It might be said that parents of twins give each baby less attention by talking less, by being affectionate or by being less responsive because of the demands of having to take care of two babies of the same age simultaneously. Body According to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Infancy is the period of life between birth and the beginning of language, around two years of age (Shriver, 2010). There are many parts that go into play in infant development. The three main parts of infant development are biosocial development, cognitive development, and psychosocial development. Biosocial development in infancy is referring to biological and social development. The first important factor of biosocial development is the body and its changes. During infancy “growth is so fast, and the consequences of neglect are so severe, that gains need to be closely monitored. Medical checkups, including measurement of height, weight, and head circumference, occur every few weeks at first in order to ascertain whether an infant is progressing as expected” (Worth, 131). Between birth and about six months, “a baby may grow 1/2 to 1 inch a month and gain 5 to 7 ounces a week” (Hoecker, 2011). A baby can be expected to double his or her birth weight by about five months. Another aspect of biosocial development is brain development. It is said that experience shapes the brain. Insert quote providing more information or proof not using the textbook. During the first 3 years of life, “childrens` brains experience dramatic changes through the use of their five senses. The brain takes in the external world through its system of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste (Chen) What this means is that infants “social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development is stimulated during multisensory experiences” (Chen). Motor skills are the abilities needed to move and control the body. There are three different parts to motor skills, reflexes, gross motor skills, and fine motor skills. Reflexes are actions performed without conscious thought. Insert quote to support statement or explaining reflexes during infancy. Also add in quotes for both gross and fine motor skills. Cognitive development is a combination of sensorimotor intelligence, information processing, and language development. Sensorimotor intelligence is ….insert quote. Sensorimotor intelligence consists of six stages, but topics are comprised of two stages. These stages include: primary circular reactions, secondary circular reactions, and tertiary circular reactions. Information processing is how one processes and stores information. Find quote about this in infancy. Talk about language development. Psychosocial development is ………. Psychosocial development consists of emotional development, the developing of social skills, and the cognitive theory. …………….. This paragraph will be about how infants learn. Quote quote and quote. This paragraph will be about the different types of twins and how they`re formed. This paragraph will somehow consists about twins and their double development. There is limited research on how twins develop as opposed to a singleton baby. This paragraph will talk about the controversial issues Here is my paper outline..
