There have been various guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on how to diagnose and evaluate Attention Deficit Disorder for children between 4- 18 years. Attention deficit affects the way children interact with their peers and perform in class. Children with ADHD have difficulty paying attention in class and have hyperactivity tendencies. Thus, the rationale for choosing this group of students is that the students fall under the special education services in IDEA, and can be assisted through the instructional strategies employed. Identifying students with special needs is a critical, as there is a disproportionate representation of minorities in special education a possible pointer to identification problems of students with emotional and behavior problems (Skiba, 2013).Instructional strategiesVideo-based interventions are increasingly being adopted to monitor and change the behavior of students with both behavioral and emotional problems. Equally, using mindfulness based stress reduction is another strategy to improve on student behavior. The VBIs provide an opportunity to monitor the behavior of fellow students or student’s own behavior with a view of altering the behavior, and incorporates a wide variety of technologies including computers and smart phones. Because the strategy uses monitoring to model appropriate behavior, it offers a positive instructional approach that enables students to view their own behavior (Goodwyn et al., 2013).
