The Institute was founded in 1968 as non-profit trade national trade association of wholesalers, manufacturers in the Canadian HVACR industries. HVACR industry has been in business for over a century, since inception and operation, it has more than 1300 members. More than 200 members fall under the umbrella of HRAI that include municipalities, utilities, educational institutions, consultants and other organizations that falls in its segment of this industry. Historically, the development and growth of this market began in the late 1920s and early 1930s which comprised mostly of store display cases. The store display evolved and led to the formation of the refrigeration parts association in1935. In 1958 the association expanded and became the air-conditioning and refrigeration wholesalers. Concurrently, heating wholesalers also formed their own independent organization in 1940s. The main agenda and focus of the organization was on the business of national distribution of the feather weight steel products that were dominating the market in the post -war building boom. The post-war boom created an exponentially expanding economic environment that encourages heavy spending and investment in the building and construction sector of the economy (NEDO, 1987).Over the years that preceded 1960s, most European and Canadian economies experience exponential growth of many products in the refrigeration sector.
