Annotated Bibliography / Reading Writers Journal Coursework

INSTRUCTIONS:

First assignment work researching publication venues in your area and identifying your writing communities. In order to keep efficient track of your findings and as a reference that can guide you through your eventual submission process, I would like you to begin an annotated bibliography of your findings.
Steps:
1. Review UNC’s explanation for Compiling and Structuring an Annotated Bibliography at http://www.unc.edu/depts/wcweb/handouts/annotated_bibliographies.html
2. Review the class’s discussion postings listing publication venues, blogs, forums, writing groups and email listservs
3. Compile a bibliography, according to the format above, that can help you keep track of your sources.
4. Be sure to clearly categorize your sources. Example:
Potential Publication Venues
a. Print Journals
b. Online Journals/ Ezines
Sources to Follow / Resources for Developing Knowledge and Voice
c. Writer’s Organizations (including forums)
d. Blogs, Listservs, and Writings Groups
e. Print Journals
f. Online Journals/ Ezines
The Annotated Bibliography is worth 50 points. In order to get your full point value, you need to demonstrate:
1. Depth of Research (25 points) – A 25 point bibliography will have at least 3 potential publication sources, and at least two of each of the following: blogs, email listservs or discussion forums, genre-specific writing organizations or groups (for a total of 6 writing communities relevant to your area).
2. Organization and Clarity (25 points) – In order to be useful to you, a bibliography needs to include all of the necessary information for you to remember why the resources you compiled are valuable and how to locate those resources. Be sure to include a paragraph explaining each source and a complete bibliographic reference (including web address and/or search terms for recovering specific pages on a web site). Review the entry on the Writer’s Journal posted on Routines for Writers at http://www.routinesforwriters.com/2010/07/21/my-reading-notebook/
Following the model from Routines for Writers, begin your writer’s journal.
Journals will be due at the end of the semester – consult schedule of assignments for due date.
Second assignment: The Reading Journal is worth 50 points. In order to get your full point value, you need to demonstrate:
Consistency of Reading (25 points) – A 25 point journal will have a minimum of 15 entries (remember to keep an entry for each of your annotated bibliography resources as well as for the things you are reading in the places you are studying as potential publication venues).
Depth of Reading (25 points) – A 25 point journal will include your detailed reflections on what you have read – style, structure, what you like and do not like, ideas you get from what you read for your own writing, reactions to the pieces read, notes for further reading, etc.
You may choose for BOTH assignment on country music or farming. Either one is fine, they are both passions of mine and very close to my heart. Both have to be on the SAME subject using the same content.
So there should be two separate assignments, reading journal and a annotated bibliography. I have also attached a sample of the bibliography
MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
Basically as you are doing the annotated bibliography -- which is intended to help you research your reading journal, to find publication venues and to study the kinds of things published in your venues, you will be reading and taking notes on the things you are reading. So the journal is to record, to study, and to learn from what you are reading as you are researching for you annotated bibliography and the work for your course reading journal.
