From the Augustine Nuns who came to Quebec in 1639 and established a medical mission, to the nineteenth century catholic orders such as the Grey Nuns and Anglican and Mennonite nuns, nursing continued its gradual growth. Early nursing tasks fell in the hands of female family members, before a formalized training and professional approach to nursing was introduced.
