The retired magistrate has given you several questions to research and answer that would help you in your preparation for the job interview. The magistrate has also offered to check your answers on completion.
The questions are as follows
- describe fully the appointment procedures for judges and
magistrates
- evaluate the implications of the appointment process for
judicial independence for both magistrates and judges
- explain the accountability of the judiciary and magistracy
with respect to justice and punishment
- evaluate the principle of judicial impartiality
- describe clearly the processes required to prosecute a defendant
- explain the role of the following criminal justice agencies – police, prison, probation service, courts and crown prosecution service with regards to justice and punishment
- evaluate the effectiveness of alternative methods of
dealing with offenders

M3 will be achieved by presenting your answers in an clear and coherent way
D1 will be achieved through critical reflection and evaluations which are justified
